It's a good implementation, frequently updated, supports playback on every computer and mobile device in my house (android/iOS), and also works perfectly with both the chromecast and appleTV (sending a streaming task, as described above).DVD-Ranger is the first full-featured Blu-ray and DVD copying/burning software which can copy and backup Blu-ray to BD-R, DVDR or hard drive in just one or a few clicks. Have you tried Serviio on your NAS? It works well for me. But I hear is has some similar issues picking up media files from a DLNA server. I am leaning more towards the Roku 3 right now. I just can't browse my libraries from the AppleTV. However, sending stuff I've initiated on my phone through DS Video, then using the AppleTV like a chromecast from my iPhone works fine. Since the Synology has been a superstar at everything else, I'll just blame the shittiness that exists around itunes and its derivatives. I have a 3rd gen Apple TV and it's never worked well with the Synology, neither for music nor movies, despite having the apple service turned on and configured to serve my media libraries. I prefer my phone over a remote, but if that doesn't meet your needs, look to one of the other options. You'd have to use a PC, phone, or tablet as your remote. chromecast - I have one and it works perfectly. The have remotes and ethernet built in.īut as I do a little more research on the 2 player devices it seems they might have some issues picking up media from a DLNA server? not sure. This is why I am interested in Roku3 or Apple TV3. I have a synology DS1515+ and I use the media server, and serviio as my DLNA servers.īut I was more interested in replacing my PS3 which is the player of the content.Ĭhromcast looks great, price is right but no remote or ethernet kind dulled my interest. You could run your computer as a Plex server and do the same thing, there are probably other options as well. Their media app supports chromecast streaming, so I send the videos to my chromecast that way. No menu support, but not something I need most of the time.

Most of us just play decrypted BD movies in Media Player Classic Home Cinema, or PotPlayer or VLC. The Leawo player will not detect Cinavia, but it isn't perfect, there are a lot of Blu-ray menus it cannot handle, and will skip straight to the main movie. Those are normally based on the old XBMC software, but have been expanded in the following years. But they are not licensed by the AACS-LA.

There are a few other software players with limited Blu-ray compatibility, including the difficult task of playing BD menus. Nero discontinued their BD player a year or more ago, so it isn't an option anymore either.

Later versions of TMT 5 and all of the versions of TMT 6 would detect Cinavia in any type of copied file, then mute the audio.

It installs a driver that isn't kosher apparently. My favorite software player was Arcsoft TotalMedia Theater, but Arcsoft shut down all of their video software a couple of years ago, and my copy of TMT 5 causes some problems in Windows 10. Its been a while since I last tested them, and do not have the latest versions anyway, but I don't remember if they will detect Cinavia in files on a hard drive or usb stick. Both of the current versions of those players will detect Cinavia on copies played from optical discs. There are only two authorized software players left on the market.
